About Us

Wayne & Mary’s Nutrition Center was originally founded by Wayne & Mary Puetz in 1970. Wayne was diagnosed quite young with Multiple Sclerois, after having coordination and vision issues while in college. With the support of medical providers and vitamin store owners who were early adopters of nutrition and supplement research, he found a number of diet and supplement programs that made a significant improvement to his health and symptoms.

After graduating, he found it incredibly difficult to get access in southeastern South Dakota to the food and supplements that had so improved his wellness, leading him and his wife Mary to open Wayne & Mary’s Nutrition Center in Sioux Falls in August of 1970, in order to provide the highest quality, most effective products, as well as the knowledge gleaned from the ever evolving research in the industry.

Two years later, in 1972, Wayne’s cousin Randy Reinartz joined the business and opened a second store in Sioux City, which eventually also moved to Sioux Falls. Eventually Wayne & Mary moved back to Mitchell, starting a location there, and in the mid-80’s the two ownership groups split to focus on their respective communities, both staying in family ownership. Now, as of January 2024, Randy’s son Andrew and his wife Rosanne have taken ownership and are continuing the long tradition of excellence set forth by the Puetz and Reinartz families.

In the years since 1970, many things have changed in the industry, in the research, and in the culture at large. What has not changed is our company’s dedication to providing the community with the knowledge and products you need to make the best decisions regarding your natural health.

See some highlights of our timeline below:

• 1970 - Wayne and Mary Puetz open Wayne and Mary's Nutritional Center at 330 S. Phillips Ave. featuring natural foods and nutritional supplements.
• 1972 - Randy Reinartz joins his cousin Wayne in the business and opens The Golden Grain Nutrition Center in Sioux City
• 1974 - The Golden Grain Nutrition Center moves from Sioux City to the Western Mall in Sioux Falls
• 1975 - Expanded to an additional location in Mitchell
• 1977 - All stores change names and become Wayne & Mary’s Nutrition Center
• 1980 - Additional location opens in the New Town Mall (now known as Empire East), eventually moving to the Empire Mall.
• 1985 - Downtown and Empire Mall locations consolidate into the Western Mall
• 1986 - Randy and Wayne buy each other out, with the Puetz family continuing to operate the Mitchell location and Randy Reinartz operating the Sioux Falls store.
• 1996 - Wayne & Mary’s Nutrition Center moves from the Western Mall to a new building at 3700 S Kiwanis Ave, where we are still located today.
• 2009 - With the support of Randy’s step-daughter Tara Whiting, an additional location is opened at 1518 S Sycamore Ave, where we are still located today.
• 2017 - Rosanne joins the store, eventually becoming general manager. Around this time, Andrew joins as bookkeeper, eventually becoming business manager.
• 2024 - Andrew and Rosanne Reinartz purchase both Sioux Falls locations from Randy Reinartz and Tara Whiting, continuing the family-owned legacy of providing the most effective products with knowledgeable staff to help you find the best natural health solutions for your needs.
